In my early career I worked as a lawyer in a large commercial firm in Bristol within the projects team drafting and negotiating complex contracts for major national and international companies and for Government departments.
After having a family I studied for horticultural exams (RHS Level 2 and 3) giving me a greater understanding of botany, soil science and general gardening practices across the seasons. I was a partner in a garden design and maintenance business employing a small team to look after numerous gardens from large country estates to small spaces. As well as general maintenance work I also designed and built new schemes being responsible for client and landscaper liaison, budgeting and general management of builds. In designing planting schemes I gained considerable practical experience of choosing the right plant for the right place while also meeting the requirements and desires of the client. I also enjoyed teaching our team about plants and gardening and also guiding clients on how to look after their new gardens. Through study and practical experience I have developed a broad knowledge of plants and gardening through the seasons but also enjoy learning about new plants and approaches to gardening.
I have been fortunate enough to be part of the planting team for award winning gardens at Chelsea Flower Show under designers Gavin McWilliam and Andrew Wilson. This gave me a valuable insight into how these ambitious garden designs are brought to life and also further expanded my knowledge of plants.
After lockdown I returned to study and completed a degree in Fine Art achieving a distinction. As well as general painting commissions, I have recently worked as an illustrator for a children’s book due to be published in Autumn 2026. I also still undertake garden design work.
In all my various endeavours I have always enjoyed learning new things and getting behind the detail of a subject. I am confident communicating with a wide range of people and enjoy working collaboratively, whether that is sharing my own knowledge or learning from others.
