I am a documentary filmmaker, executive producer, and former BBC Senior Multimedia Journalist, now based in London, with more than 12 years of experience producing stories across Africa for international broadcasters, production companies, global brands and development organisations. I combine editorial leadership with hands-on producing, directing, self-shooting and photography, taking projects from research and access through filming, scripting and delivery.
My broadcast and documentary experience includes BBC Panorama, Newsnight, Our World and World Business Report; National Geographic; Al Jazeera; CBC/Radio-Canada; TV Globo; ARTE; TV2 Danmark; TV4 Sweden; and Barcroft Media/Discovery.
Selected work includes local production on Panorama’s British American Tobacco bribery investigation, Kenya archive and survivor research for Blast! Films’ National Geographic tsunami series with director Daniel Bogado, environmental investigations for Premières Lignes’ Planet Killers, and producing on Al Jazeera’s Earthrise. More recent projects include an eight-episode Kenyan food series for ARTE/Elephant Doc and a textile-industry documentary with Chinese Shipindao.
At BBC Africa, I helped launch new television output across five programme genres, developing pilots, shaping editorial and production workflows, and supporting recruitment and onboarding. I subsequently managed a team of up to 15 producers across Africa in the Health Unit, producing Life Clinic, a weekly 30-minute programme distributed through more than 40 partner stations. I also wrote and produced Talk It Out, bringing African experiences of mental health into a studio discussion format, and deputised for the editor.
As founder and executive producer of Paperjam Film Agency, established in 2014, I have led documentary, branded-content, photography and livestream productions. My collaborations include Mother London on a Water.org campaign, Atomized Studios/World Fixer on Upfield production, and impact storytelling for UNODC, the EU-funded PLEAD programme and Hivos. I have also produced and filmed campaign content through BrandOutLoud for IRC, AKVO, SIMAVI and Wetlands International. Films and campaigns I produced and directed have received nominations from the NGO International Film Festival and the Expertise Centre Humanitarian Communication.
My work spans investigative journalism, health, climate, conservation, justice, innovation, food and culture. Alongside television and film, I have produced and edited the Institute for Journalism and Social Change’s And Then What? podcast and commissioned, edited and quality-assured Kiswahili journalism for Bird Story Agency. I bring extensive contributor networks and production knowledge across Africa, including sensitive access, archive research, interview preparation, crew coordination, locations, permits, schedules and shoot logistics.
I am fluent in English and Kiswahili, with a strong commitment to editorial accuracy, informed consent, and giving contributors a meaningful voice. Having relocated to London, I am pursuing an MA in Documentary Film at London College of Communication, University of the Arts London, and am interested in part-time production, editorial, research, and coordination opportunities alongside my studies.
